According to Google research, famous psychologist Diana Baumrind introduced the three basic parenting manners in the 1960s. Later, Stanford researchers Eleanor Maccoby and John Martin introduced the fourth method in the 1980s. These four methods are still the basic styles of parenting.

Under this parenting approach, all family members must follow an organized schedule. Limits are set for everything. For instance, screen time is limited to 30 minutes daily; ice cream can be eaten on Sundays but only in summer. Some important rules are created on which no compromise can be made. Kids are asked to organize their things. Toys must be placed in a box after playing with them. Uniforms must be arranged in the cupboard after coming from school.  

If the child faces any difficulty, the role of parents is to provide all the supporting material to get through it. If the kid faces difficulty in any subject, parents must guide them. As a result, kids learn how to face and get out of problems. This strengthens them to endure hardships and continue following their passion and interests.  

Advantages & Disadvantages of Authoritative Parenting  

Authoritative parenting is considered the most effective and appreciated at any phase of a kid’s age. This parenting style has a long-term effect on kids. Kids learn to face difficulties and can solve any problem in their whole life. They live the best, well-mannered, and peaceful life. They have strong emotions and determination.  

Discussing the disadvantages, we found no disadvantage of this parenting style. The thing that comes to mind is that in an earlier stage, the kids may get tired of following some rules, but this issue can be solved by rewarding your kids after they follow all the rules in a day. 

How to Apply Authoritative Parenting Style Effectively? 

Keeping this in mind, some parents may ask how to apply this parenting style in fun or effective ways. The question of being tired of following rules comes into parents’ minds. The simple solution to this problem is to create a rewarding activity at home for the implementation of regulations. 

For example, you may ask your kids to get a mobile for 10 minutes or something else as a reward after completing their homework or anything else you want your child to do. Parents must develop a friendly environment with their kids so that they can listen to them. Moreover, parents must provide complete goodness to their kids.  

2. Authoritarian Parenting Style

In this parenting style, a child is forced to obey the parents. Rules are created, and the child is asked to follow up, and if the child doesn’t obey any authority, he is hardly punished. These punishments are made to turn a kid into a well-mannered person who fits into society. The parents believe that doing this is better for their kids. These parents love their kids, but they make strict rules to make their kid’s lifestyle fit into society. This type of parenting is just like authoritative parenting. Still, there is quite a difference in love and emotions between authoritarian and authoritative parenting. In this type of parenting, kids are usually treated strictly. Kids obey them because if they don’t do it, they face a lack of love from their parents. To gain their parent’s love and attraction, kids obey all the orders, and parents think their parenting style is good. 

For example, suppose a child faces difficulty in any task. In that case, they do not ask their parents for help because they fear being insulted. 3. Permissive Parenting Style

Third comes permissive parenting. In this type of parenting, parents fulfill their kids’ desires, disrespecting all the limits. The child gets all the things that he needs. Parents give full independence to their kids and meet every demand of their kids. For example, if a child demands to play video games, he is allowed to play until he gets tired. If they require ice cream, they get one. 

Wealthy people mostly follow this type of parenting. Rich people think their wealth is endless and they can do whatever they want. They want their kids to spend and show off all their wealth in society. Secondly, they fulfill all desires because they believe doing this can show more love toward their child.  

They don’t understand what wrong they are doing to their kids. All these things may cause them to feel proud of him, and here comes a quote: “Pride hath a fall.” They may not be able to control their temper, which may leave a bad impression on society for that kid. 

For example, suppose your kid failed the school examination or was punished at school for not doing homework. As they have experienced anything beyond their expectations, they may not control their emotions and ultimately start starting things in the classroom. How many teachers or classmates in the school respect them? 

Advantages & Disadvantages of Permissive Parenting  

Considering the advantages and disadvantages of permissive parenting, we mostly notice many cases where we observe kids weeping loudly on roads, in the market, or public places, demanding toys or other things from their parents. Fulfilling demands is a good activity, but providing each and everything for your kids will make them stubborn, and that’s a very bad habit. 

Moreover, this parenting style may make your child much more sensitive. They cannot control their emotions; they will shout at others or start crying. This may make them feel out of their friends’ company and ultimately feel all alone. They cannot face any hardship in their life, and as a result, they’ll be depressed in any hard situation.  

4. Neglectful Parenting Style

In this parenting style, parents completely ignore their kids and remain busy in their daily routines. They believe they are working hard for their kid’s future and that this is enough for any child, or they may think they can grow better independently. They don’t even celebrate any family event at home, and they don’t even appreciate their kids for any good performance. 

For example, a child stands first in the school examination and comes home happily, hoping to receive appreciation from their parents. Still, he has yet to receive it from anyone. This type of parenting may cause your kid to suffer depression, or your kid may get into bad company. Neglectful parenting is the worst type, as the parents completely ignore their kids.

5. Over-Involved Parenting Style 

The fifth type of parenting, over-involved, has been introduced in recent years. In this parenting style, parents are present in every aspect of their kids’ lives and remove every obstacle from their kids’ paths. They are also known as “snowplows” or “helicopter parents” as they hover about and micro-manage every aspect of their child’s life. 

For example, they help their child wear clothes, carry their kids’ bags to school, polish their kids’ shoes, etc. Psychologists have recently introduced this type of parenting.  

Advantages & Disadvantages of Over-Involved Parenting

Parents mostly practice this type of parenting to ensure that their child is living a pleasant life. These parents don’t understand that this style of parenting cannot help their child manage hardships. Children need to utilize their minds to solve problems. These kids don’t even like solving difficult tasks but lack interest in them.
